Interview With Jeaniene Frost

I was going to wait a lil' bit before I posted this interview, but I asked myself why wait if you can do it now? So here we go...

Jeaniene Frost is one of my , and other thousands of people, favorite authors. She writes The Night Huntress Series and The Night Huntress World. I love her first series, and can't wait for the second one to hit the book shelves.

Let the fun begin.

First off, a little summary of The Night Huntress Series and Night Huntress World:

The Night Huntress series features half-vampire Cat Crawfield and Master vampire Bones as the main characters. When readers first meet Cat, she’s determined to kill as many vampires as she can in revenge for her undead father assaulting her mother. After Cat is captured by Bones and forced to work with him, she realizes that most of what she’s believed about vampires – and her other nature – isn’t true. Cat also finds out that more than vampires go bump in the night, and that evil isn’t limited to creatures without a heartbeat. When Cat’s relationship with Bones heats up, so does the danger surrounding them, plunging Cat further into the undead world than she ever thought she’d go.

Night Huntress World books are spin-offs from the Night Huntress series featuring side characters as the main characters. FIRST DROP OF CRIMSON, Night Huntress World book one, features Spade (a.k.a. Charles) as the hero and Denise as the heroine. ETERNAL KISS OF DARKNESS, Night Huntress World book two, features Mencheres as the hero and a new character Kira as the heroine. Both books will stand-alone novels, not the start of a new series, and will be set in current times with their storylines running parallel to the Night Huntress series.

Have you always known you wanted to be a writer?

I knew since twelve that I wanted to write a book, because that’s when I really fell in love with reading. But I never thought I’d be able to make a career out of it. I just wanted to write as an outlet for all the stories I had swirling around in my head. Since I’m a classic procrastinator, however, it took me until I was almost thirty to quit talking about writing a book and actually do it. I was halfway through writing a truly awful time travel romance when I got the idea for the Night Huntress books, so I stopped working on the Awful Time Travel novel to start what was to become HALFWAY TO THE GRAVE.

Why enter the Supernatural realm? What attracts you about the supernatural?

I’ve been a fan of the supernatural since I was a child sneaking to watch horror movies. The “what if” factor of the paranormal is fascinating, terrifying, and exciting to me. There’s so much room for larger-than-life heroes, heroines, and villains when you take out the restrictions that apply to “normal” life and introduce supernatural elements. Plus, I’ve been a vampire fan since I first saw Dracula – and wanted him to win over VanHelsing ;-).

When you aren't writing, what do you do in your spare time?

Spare time? What’s that? *wink* Kidding aside, I try to read as much as I can, because with deadlines, my reading time has been cut down a lot. When not reading, my husband and I like to watch movies (usually with a paranormal slant!), go out to dinner, take walks with the dog, or hang out with our families. Yes, sounds very tame, but it’s my characters who like to live on the edge, not me.

Who/what do you consider to be your influence?

As I said earlier, I’ve been a fan of horror movies since I was way too young to watch them. Most of them were paranormal horror movies, so I’m sure that had a big influence on me. I’ve also been a romance reader since age twelve, so that’s had a big influence on me too. Writers who inspired me when I was first psyching myself up to jump into the publishing world were Laurell K Hamilton (first writer I’d read who had vampires as heroes, not just villains!), Diana Gabaldon (Claire’s humor and wit really sparkled), Dean Koontz (his books blend elements of horror, mystery, romance, and the paranormal - all while managing to still be character-driven) and M.M. Kaye, because The Far Pavilions pulled me so deeply into the story that I almost cried when it was over.

How did you derive the idea for your Night Huntress Series?

I came up with the idea from a dream. In my dream, I saw a man and a woman arguing. Somehow I knew the woman was a half-vampire, the man was a full vampire, and they were arguing because he was angry that she'd left him. The story of who they were, and what led up to that point in their lives, evolved and became HALFWAY TO THE GRAVE, but I hadn’t even scratched the surface when I finished that book. In fact, the argument I'd glimpsed in my dream takes place in the second book in the series, ONE FOOT IN THE GRAVE. By the time I was done writing that, I had ideas for the third and fourth books, too.

Do you have favorite characters? If so, why? I love Bones, Cat, Dracula, and Spade.

I’m fickle, because my favorite characters tend to be whoever I’m writing at the moment. Cat and Bones will always have a special place in my heart, because they were my first heroine/hero. However, I’ve emotionally cheated on them, lol. I developed a huge crush on Spade while writing FIRST DROP OF CRIMSON, and Denise also really shined in that story. She’s far stronger and more complicated that I realized when I was writing her as a side character.

Vlad’s character was a complete surprise to me, because when I started writing the series, I resolved never to add Dracula to it. Then in AT GRAVE’S END, Vlad showed up, fully formed in my mind, derisive of his fictional representation, and far too fun to delete because of my former resolution. When writing ETERNAL KISS OF DARKNESS I got very attached to Mencheres, who also surprised me with his many complex layers, his dry wit, and his amazing powers. Kira, the heroine of that novel, started out as someone I *thought* I’d had pegged in the outline stage and then turned every assumption I’d had of her on its head, stymieing my progress until I wrote her the right way. I also have a lot of fun writing Ian, Annette, and yes, even Justina, because they’re sometimes despicable, sometimes honorable, and frequently outrageous.

See? Told you I was fickle!

When did you decide that you were going to do another series from The Night Huntress? Why?

I’ve had the plot ideas about Spade, Denise, and Mencheres swirling in my mind for a long time. About a year before HALFWAY TO THE GRAVE even hit the shelves, I told my editor I wanted to write a book featuring Spade as the hero because I knew exactly who he'd end up with and that she'd meet Denise in my second Cat and Bones book (which my editor hadn’t even read at the time). Then I told her I had even more ideas about Mencheres, who also hadn’t shown up in the series at this point. My editor very gently pointed out that first we'd have to see how this series sold before we could see about doing spin-offs on it. Publishing is a business, so if the Night Huntress series flopped, my odds of readers being interested in spin-offs featuring side characters from it (or my publisher buying those books) were extremely low.

After my first two Night Huntress novels came out and did better than expected, I had my agent approach my editor with proposals for those spin-off books. My editor bought both of them, to my delight. The timing was perfect, because the plotline in the Night Huntress series had progressed to where the first spin off book, FIRST DROP OF CRIMSON, would fit exactly into the events after DESTINED FOR AN EARLY GRAVE (even though Spade and Denise’s story can still easily be read by people who've never picked up a Cat and Bones book). Then ETERNAL KISS OF DARKNESS picks up right after that and segues perfectly into Cat and Bones’s next adventures. Without reader enthusiasm for the Night Huntress series, I wouldn’t have gotten to write the books I’d spent years thinking about, so I can’t express how thrilled I am about that.

How did you come up with Bones? Do you know that almost every female that reads your books is instantly in love with him? (love the British accent).

Hey, I adore him, too! And it’s no accident that Bones is English - I’ve loved that accent since I was a teen. As I mentioned before, Bones showed up in my head as a stubborn, lethal, sexy Master vampire who was very in love with Cat. So right away, I knew what he was, but I didn’t know how he’d gotten to be that way. Finding out the “why’s” became the starting point for his history, and his character – and the story - grew from there.

Where you thinking of Spike from Buffy when you created Bones?

No, but if Bones reminds readers of Spike, I don’t have a problem with that. I’ve had readers say Bones reminds them of Eric from the Sookie Stackhouse series, Jean-Claude from LKH’s series, Lestat from Anne Rice’s series, Legolas from Lord of the Rings, Marcus from Blade the TV series, Acheron from the Dark Hunter series, Spike from Buffy, Edward from the Twilight series…the list goes on. With how Bones changes his hair color from book to book, I expect he’ll remind readers of even more fictional characters in the future, too. Whatever makes readers happy while they’re reading is fine by me.

When writing about Bones’s appearance, I was thinking of Viggo Mortensen’s cheekbones,

Billy Idol’s bleached hair (yes, that SO dates me, I know!),

and Bruce Campbell’s dark eyebrows,

...all mixed with a body that came straight from my naughty imagination. The English accent resulted from my long-time love of them (I blame my teenage crush on Billy Idol, but really, is there anyone who doesn’t like English accents?). Then Bones’s swagger, attitude, and biting wit were combinations of things that cracked me up, plus hints of John Cusack in Grosse Point Blank and the “hail to the king, baby!” arrogant hilarity from (again) Bruce Campbell in Army of Darkness, all mixed with how his character appeared in my head. So in many ways, Bones is a stir-fry of a lot of different people and things simmered together with my own twisted imagination.

If your book/books were turned into a movie, who would you like to play the main characters?

I really don’t know. I have yet to see an actor who makes me think “he could be Bones!” Cat might be easier. I’ve said before I thought if Scarlett Johansson dyed her hair red, she’d be a good representative of Cat.

Or Emily Blunt, also assuming her hair was dyed red. Bones…there’s a reason he’s fictional. In real life, most men just don’t look as amazing as he does in my mind =].

And finally, could you give us a glimpse into First Drops of Crimson?

Sure! When Denise is forced by a demon shapeshifter to locate a relative who backed out of a dark deal, she turns to Master vampire Spade for help. Spade swore he'd never fall for a human again, but as they scour the undead world together, his desire for Denise becomes too great to resist. But once the true depth of the demon’s hold over Denise is revealed, even Spade’s power might not be enough to save her.

Back cover description, teaser page, first chapter, and book trailer for FIRST DROP OF CRIMSON can all be found here. Book releases February 9th.

US VS UK, Round Seven...

There are always two version's to a cover, but in this post we are putting the US and the UK head to head to see who comes with the best cover. Our contestants are...

Blood Feud by Alyxandra Harvey and Blue Moon by Alison Noel

And Now We Shall Begin...

Round 1

US-UK

I like them both in different ways. I like the UK one because I have always liked covers with red, black and white colors. The background looks pretty neat too. Now I like the US cover because it continues the cover theme of the first cover (although a little less creepy). Now I assume that those two are Isabeau and Logan Drake. Logan looks a lot like I thought Nicholas would look like, then again they are brothers. For me, I would pick the US cover because I have the US cover for Hearts at Stake, but if I had the Hearts at Stake UK cover I would choose the UK.

And if it's just between these two I pick US cover.

Summary:

The action and romance continue as the Drakes face a new vampire with a 200-year-old grudge.

It’s been centuries since Isabeau St. Croix barely survived the French Revolution. Now she’s made her way back to the living and she must face the ultimate test by confronting the evil British lord who left her for dead the day she turned into a vampire. That’s if she can control her affection for Logan Drake, a vampire whose bite is as sweet as the revenge she seeks.

The clans are gathering for Helena’s royal coronation as the next vampire queen, and new alliances are beginning to form now that the old rifts of Lady Natasha’s reign have started to heal. But with a new common enemy, Leander Montmarte—a vicious leader who hopes to force Solange to marry him and usurp the power of the throne for himself—the clans must stand together to preserve the peace he threatens to destroy.

This second adventure in the Drake Chronicles—told from both Logan’s and Isabeau’s perspectives—has all the same butt-kicking action, heart-pounding romances and snarky humor that readers loved in Hearts at Stake, as well as exciting new revelations about the vampire dynasties to keep readers coming back for more.

Out on: June 22, 2010.

Round 2

I like the font of the UK one but the background of the US one. I just don't like the UK picture that much. I do like the little yellow flowers (I wanna say daisies?). So this round it's pretty simple. It's a US win.

And there you go! I'm only doing two rounds today cause I have to talk about something else. The cover for Dark Flame, The Immortals book 4, has been released. Wanna see it?

Pretty, simple, dark. They keep getting better as the series gets worse. I just hope the series gets better because I just don't know if I can take it any longer, kind of like the house of night series. But I am a series junkie, I have to read it till the end!

Summary:

At the start of this mesmerizing new installment in the Immortals series, Ever is helping her friend Haven transition into life as an immortal. But with Haven drunk on her new powers and carelessly putting them all at risk, their friendship becomes more and more strained. At the same time, Ever delves deeper into magick to get control over her enemy Roman and free Damen from his power.

But when the spell she casts on Roman backfires, she’s bound to her deadliest enemy. Frantic to reverse the spell the moment the moon enters a new phase, she finds her efforts are fruitless—there’s a strange, foreign pulse coursing through her, one that propels her toward Roman. Desperate to break free of the curse before Damen discovers what she’s done, she turns to Jude and delves deeper into dark magick, ultimately risking everything she knows and loves— including her beloved Damen.

Out and About: July 6, 2010.

That is it for today ^^

Tuesday 26 January 2010

Teaser Tuesday

"Maybe I knew deep down ho crappy they looked, how easily they'd unravel if you just picked at one for a bit. Like Mum. I don't even know why I was down by the river. I mean, I'm eight, and I find her? Like, I'm on my own? The river's a good ten minutes walk from our house.

But it doesn't make sense. She wouldn't have taken me with her. You don't kill yourself in fron of your eight year old son."
Pg. 3

I haven't really gotten into it yet, then again I have only read this far away.

The summary of the book sounds interesting though!

Summary:

London teenager Will Hodge is miserable. His mother is dead, his father’s political leanings have grown radical, and his friends barely talk to him. To top it off, he’s having nightmares about things like concentration camps. Then Will notices he's being followed by a group of people who claim to know him from another time in history. It turns out they are Returners, reincarnated people who carry with them the memory of atrocities they have witnessed in the past. Will realizes that he, too, is a Returner.

But something about his memories is different, and with dawning horror, Will suspects that he wasn’t just a witness to the events, he was instrumental in making them happen. Set in the near future, with the world on the verge of a new wave of ethnic cleansing, Will must choose to confront the cruelty he's known in his past lives, or be doomed to repeat it . . . again.

Bleeding Violet by Dia Reeves

Title: Bleeding Violet
Series: Should be, but ain't.
Author: Dia Reeves
Pages: 464
Publisher: Simon Pulse
Reading Level: Young Adult
Spotlight: Characters
Rating: .7

"Crazy never looked so beautiful"

Love can be a dangerous thing....

Hanna simply wants to be loved. With a head plagued by hallucinations, a medicine cabinet full of pills, and a closet stuffed with frilly, violet dresses, Hanna's tired of being the outcast, the weird girl, the freak. So she runs away to Portero, Texas in search of a new home.

Portero is a stranger town than Hanna expects. As she tries to make a place for herself, she discovers dark secrets that would terrify any normal soul. Good thing for Hanna, she's far from normal. As this crazy girl meets an even crazier town, only two things are certain: Anything can happen and no one is safe.

Taschima:

My first favorite of 2010!

This book went above any expectation I had of it. It's dark, it's gory, strange beyond any doubt, and completely unique. Which makes it completely and utterly awesome.

Hannah is this crazy girl and when I say crazy I mean the whole combo. On the very first chapter we find out she hit her aunt with a rolling pin and a little after that she swears that if Rosalie kicks her out she is going to paint the walls with her own blood. I just said she was crazy! And one of the things about her is that she is sooo different from other female protagonist. She ain't all bad, but she ain't all good either. She has her good, bad, and ugly sides all in one character. Some things about her may bother you if you think the main character should be perfect that's for sure (example, she has a tendency to sleep around). Now, she doesn't try to be a hero. She doesn't have to save the world. She only wants for her mother to love her, and this is one of the main points that keep us glued to the book (other than Hannah herself, you never know what she is going to do next).

Other characters are Wyatt a guy that at first I didn't like, and even thought that I would never like him, but after he stop being an asshole he became a pretty lovable character. He is smart, he has guts, and he's hot. I don't love him, but I certainly can see why he and Hannah ended up together.

Another very important character is Hannah's mother. A woman who everybody admires, but that nobody talks to. Nobody knows about her; her character is so gray. Sometimes you just wanted to shake her even though you could understand where she was coming from.

I so loved this book, but I give it a 4.7 because I found out that it doesn't have a sequel and I didn't felt closure at the end. I felt like the second book could have been even better. So many paths were left open and a number of things unanswered. Like for example, Hannah can talk to her father, but her father is dead. Now, her father helped her with things Hannah didn't know about throughout the book and the whole time you could have think that maybe is her mind making her spooky hallucination but it couldn't be. Things happen that are not explain thoroughly and I so wished this book had another one coming up.

Is like Dia Reeves made me fall in love with Portero (the world of the book) and now she is taking it away without giving me time to heal, and a number of 'why's' were left behind.

Oh and just so you know, it may be YA but there is sex, cursing (I believe), and other disturbing things so if you do not feel comfortable with this don't read it.

I loved it, I so did. Everybody should read it.

My Current Read: Bleeding Violet

I am going to do this post more often. Every time I start a new book and am half way though it I am going to do a post about how it's going so far, my suspicions, doubts, wonders, etc. I think it will be a great way to get you familiar with the book before I do a complete review on it. Kind of like dipping your toes on the water before diving in.

My current read is Bleeding Violet by Dia Reeves. I cannot believe it took me so long to start this book. It's amazing! Completely an utterly insane which is what makes it pop and sparkle. Such a great find, and such a great read.

The main character Hanna hits her aunt on the head with a rolling pin and runs off to find her birth mother Rosalie. She soon finds out that Rosalie is so NOT the perfect mother, in fact I don't think she has a motherly fiber in her being. Did I mention Hannah is completely insane? Though I am starting to wonder where the insane stops and the special starts. I have my suspicions she is more than a very insane girl who is obsessed with violet and being loved/accepted.

Here is a summary of the book:

Love can be a dangerous thing.... Hanna simply wants to be loved. With a head plagued by hallucinations, a medicine cabinet full of pills, and a closet stuffed with frilly, violet dresses, Hanna's tired of being the outcast, the weird girl, the freak. So she runs away to Portero, Texas in search of a new home.

But Portero is a stranger town than Hanna expects. As she tries to make a place for herself, she discovers dark secrets that would terrify any normal soul. Good thing for Hanna, she's far from normal. As this crazy girl meets an even crazier town, only two things are certain: Anything can happen and no one is safe.

I strongly believe this summary doesn't completely encompass the insanity of the novel. The novel and the characters just go against any common sense! With the summary you would just think Hannah is a sick mental patient, but she is so much more than that. I love how Dia Reeves has managed to captured the essence of Hannah and make us love her. Even though you know you should feel worried for your well being around her you just can't help but cheer her on like if you were her best friend.

Now guys play nice and meet Hannah:

"Don't make fun of me, Wyatt. I remember thinking that night in the dark park that you were a robot. I remember wanting to cut you open with the machete to see the gears with my own eyes."
-Hannah
Pg. 237

Creepy right? The way Dia writes it, it's like so normal. Like everybody had the need to open up somebody from time to time. Some normal activity, like wanting to eat ice cream or watch a movie. Sure, normal, until you read it a second time and your like 'Wait a minute...WHAAT!'. I'm telling you, so much fun this novel.

This is going to be one of my favorite reads of 2010, perhaps my first favorite read of 2010.

US VS UK (6)

I just noticed that when I write US VS UK you read it like us vs UK... Lol totally not my intention.

US VS UK is hosted by moi. I don't know how long ago. But I found it is a great way to compare and contrast what works for some and what doesn't.

This couple of rounds are for the series Blue Bloods by Melissa De La Cruz.

Round 1
Blue Bloods by Melissa De La Cruz

US-UK

The US one looks too pale for my taste. I do like how the city is on the bottom of the cover though, representing the setting and the class standard of the Blue Bloods. Now in the second cover the girl is pale but not pale dead like in the first one. They are similarities, the pearls, the bite, but are different in color, pose and font. For me, this round is won by the UK.

Round 2
Masquerade by Melissa De La Cruz

US-UK

This has to be an US win. Though I enjoy the color of the second one I think the US one is stronger. The UK one is hell a pretty, but the US one for me is more in tune with the story. It's just not showing how pretty they are, but how powerful.

Round 3
Revelations by Melissa De La Cruz

US-UK

UK win! I like the pose of the model and how vulnerable she seems. While the US one seems like a sticky tattoo is put on the back of her neck and the model doesn't really show us anything since the focus is on the tattoo.

Round 4
The Van Alen Legacy

US-UK

They both are pretty, they both have bridal themes, but the US one is prettier. The pose for me is just better. I love it xD One of the best covers of 09.

Well that will do for today. Its a tie!!! Yay!

Twilight: The Graphic Novel

First of all, you ever heard of the saying "Don't kill the messenger"? Yeah, well, don't. I am the messenger, I didn't actually did the idea of making IT into a comic book.

While I think the comic book idea will surely bring more readers into our great YA genre, I just have to say it. A comic book? Seriously? I thought Twilight was famous enough already xD It just seems like they are just trying to squeeze until it is completely dry. Aren't a couple of you people just tired of Twilight?

I just wish some novels like Beautiful Creatures, City of Bones, The Hunger Games and Vampire Academy received his much attention. These are a couple of my favorites, and they are amazing in writing, plot and characters. Why don't they get as much attention? It is all just plain old luck?

Anyways, yeah, they are making a comic, and I guess I have to admit the art is pretty great... No, not great, FANTASTIC. Love the art.

Look at the cover:

Fan-fricking-tastic. The light, the color, the drawing in itself... I would give my left hand just to be able to do this from my mind (can't give the right one because then what's the point?).

Although I think the character is way to perfect to be Bella. She ain't suppose to be this wow. She is a rather normal girl until she goes all vampire mode. Then she is beautiful, just like in that picture.

I think the series lacks the action you would expect from a comic book. I mean superman and other heroes live here people. But it would make for a good addition to the Twilight phenomenon considering the pictures that talk angle. And yes I may be a little hypnotized by the art, but who wouldn't be?

One more pic before I go:

That's as large as I could get it to be. But if you would like to read an article about the comic, and see a larger picture, please click here. I found about this because I was at Stephenie's site looking for news about The Host, her adult book which I really liked. Will they ever make a sequel to it? Goodness I hope so.

Anyways let me know what you think, good or bad addition? The art? Do you think the girl in the cover looks like Bella or do you join in my thoughts of this girl looking too perfect to actually be our clumsy HUMAN Bella?

Gotta go to sleep, write ya all later!

"Magic can surely be a funny thing."

Nimira is a music-hall performer forced to dance for pennies to an audience of leering drunks. When wealthy sorcerer Hollin Parry hires her to do a special act - singing accompaniment to an exquisite piano-playing automaton, Nimira believes it is the start of a new life. In Parry's world, however, buried secrets stir.

Unsettling below-stairs rumours abound about ghosts, a mad woman roaming the halls, and of Parry's involvement in a gang of ruthless sorcerers who torture fairies for sport. When Nimira discovers the spirit of a dashing young fairy gentleman is trapped inside the automaton's stiff limbs, waiting for someone to break the curse and set him free, the two fall in love. But it is a love set against a dreadful race against time to save the entire fairy realm, which is in mortal peril.

Taschima:

Magic Under Glass was a fantastic tale. It's full of lovable and also horrid characters. They aren't horrid in the way the are developed or portrayed just that they are the bad guys and oh goodness how I hated them xD

Nimira, a performer who ran away from home, is spotted by the wizard Hollins who takes her back to his home to be a singer to his automaton. But a lot of secrets roam in that house, from ghosts and spirits to a fairy prince trapped in a fate no human or fairy should ever face. Will Nimira succumb to her fears? Or will she face them head on and change her destiny, along with those of who she is close to, forever?

One thing the author is very good at is making you feel a certain way about the characters and the story. As you may well know the romance of the story is between a girl and a clockwork, and there are so many ways that could have gone awry but the author pulled it off with amazing ability. I loved the clockwork! His emotions were so powerful and real while he was in his non animated form. You could almost touch them.

Now moving to the girl. She was believable and strong. Though I didn't really connect with her as I do with other female protagonists she was a good character, they all were really, but the story for me didn't concentrate on the characters perse, it rather concentrated on the portrayal of emotion, feelings, love, sacrifice, and loss.

Favorite characters: Annalie, Linza, & The Clockwork.

Ugh I so don't wanna be a spoiler so I will talk around the edges. A thing that happens in the book I wish it didn't happen because I didn't really like how a character changed. Though its a very important thing and I knew it would happen I just think it took away the mystery, the allure, and some of the love I felt towards the book. Why? Because I didn't like what came of it.

Another thing is the book could have been longer. What's the thing with small books this days? Or maybe it's just the books I'm reading right now? xD

But maybe things will get better as the story progresses in the second installment. Yes, there is a sequel and I can honestly say I can't wait to read it.

Magic Under Glass

Well, I am totally out of the loop apparently since I just found out about the cover controversy for Magic Under Glass. This are my 2 cents:

I know that being aware of things like this is important and everything, but unlike when the controversy was about the cover of Liar (which was clearly a huge mistake from the person who made the cover, I mean white white girl on a cover that is suppose to be for a dark colored skin person? Come on of course people are going to be angry!) I think this one is just not that big of a deal. From my perspective, and I am holding the book in my hands right now, the skin of the girl in the cover ain't that much different from mine, and I am absolutely not white.

"Tassim, in the far East... in Lorinar, she is nothing but a dark-skinned amusement"

So from this you think of the girl as being exotic and darker on the skin department than most girls. But there is another part where one character named Hollins describes her skin as having a "golden glow".

If I were to go to a place where the majority of the population is white I would too be claimed as having dark-skin. Like I said in a comment of mine I would describe my skin as having a golden glow, doesn't mean I am brown perse. Let's see, I consider Brazilians to be exotic and they aren't necessarily brown colored. Most of them have a golden glow. Also just because you are a certain race doesn't mean every person is going to have the same color of skin. My sister is white, she is Puerto Rican like me, and my brother is a little bit darker than me.

All I'm trying to say is don't ban Bloomsbury from your buying list just because. True they may have made some mistakes here and there but if you ban them you are hurting the authors more than the publisher. The author made the story, not the cover. If you don't like the cover well, put your own cover on top of it or something xD The author is the one who poured their hearts into the story and not giving them a try because of a cover mistake is just not fair for anyone.

Again, I understand the importance of the matter and I am not saying it's not important to fight for what you believe, but really when you are in the middle of publishing a book a lot is going on and authors most of the time don't have a say on the book cover and a whole lot of the time the people who do the covers don't read the book. But in this one I think they did good. I like it. Then again everybody is different and have different tastes and opinions.

And those are my two cents,
